The demonstrations started Nov. 2 1 when President Viktor Yanukovich declined a trade offer with Europe. Opposition leaders are requesting to enter into talks together with the authorities — a shift the united states government supports as a means to deescalate the problem.
The demonstrations in the Ukraine stole the limelight in the 2014 Winter Matches in Russia, which are underway in Sochi over 800 miles away.
